All You Need To Know About Teleseminars
Teleseminars are seminars that are conducted over the telephone.
It is an exciting new technology for providing professional development and training. It is used extensively in other parts of the world, especially the US, but is beginning to be used more and more here in Australia also.
Benefits of Teleseminars.
- They are very convenient.
- You don't have to leave your office to participate so there is minimal disruption to your working day.
- They are very time efficient because there is no travel time lost.
- There is no stress travelling to and from a conference venue.
- Parking is not a problem.
- They are low cost.
- Of necessity, they are very focussed because they are usually only 1-1½ hours long.
So what do I need to do to join a teleseminar.
1. You obviously need a phone. A landline is best. Mobiles can pose problems. Cordless phones can also cause difficulties if you are using them too far away from the base. Some people use VOiP or Skype, but these aren't as reliable either.
2. You need an international phone card which can be purchased at newsagents, post offices, even BP service stations or online.
I buy mine at http://www.OzPrepaidCards.com.au
You phone into the US to connect to the call. Don't let this concern you. This is the cheapest phone call for a teleseminar. A one hour call for a teleseminar costs between $1.20 and $2.00 depending on your phone card. This is cheaper than a long distance call in Australia. So how do you get on to a teleseminar?
This is how we conduct our teleseminars at People Empowered.
Step 1. People join teleseminars from all over the world. The first thing you need to do before you register is to check the World Clock Time Converter at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html and see what time the teleseminar is in your country or city.
Step 2. You register and pay for the teleseminar.
Step 3. A few days prior to the teleseminar you will receive an email from me confirming details of the call and giving you the number you need to dial to connect. It will be something like 0011 1 712 316 424. Note this is ONLY an example. It is NOT the teleseminar number.
You will also be given a Conference ID. This is the way you gain access to the teleseminar. It is usually a 5 digit number.Step 4. On the day of the call, you will receive a reminder about an hour before the call.
Step 5. When you join the teleseminar, you may hear people talking and networking if you have called in early, just like people do at a live seminar. You can just listen or join the conversation. I will ask people to introduce themselves when they join the call. You don't have to if you don't want to or you can just use your first name. In fact, you can be quiet for the whole teleseminar and just listen if you wish.
Recording of the Call.
The call will be recorded and everyone who has registered will receive a copy of the recording which you will be able to listen to on your computer or download to your iPod, or even burn to a CD. So even if you can't attend at the actual time, you will receive the recording and can listen at your leisure.
That's all there is to it, but if you still have questions, email me.
